Eat right to control your diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus is a condition in which the blood sugar level is persistently raised. This raised blood sugar level if uncontrolled could result in a number of health complications.

When people think about diabetes, they think of sugar in food as the cause. This is true to a certain extent. However, it also has to do with the types and quantity of foods that we eat over time.

Carbohydrates usually form the base for most of our meals, so choosing healthier options will ensure that we are able to keep our blood sugar level under control.   • Reduce the need to add sugar to food and drinks

  • Reduce your alcohol intake

Alcohol affects blood sugar control because alcoholic drinks are high in sugar content and they cause weight gain, so it is a good idea to limit the amount of alcohol you drink in other to maintain well-controlled sugar levels
